Who Are Classic Reproductions? |
|
Classic Reproductions began as a UK company formed by Mick Cassell, an art enthusiast and long-time collector of high-quality reproductions. Mick established Classic Reproductions to share his passion for experiencing fine art with a wider audience.
Classic Reproductions began as a casual gallery in Leicester, England; patrons were invited to browse our selection and even to read from our extensive library of books on our favourite artists. A web presence was developed and soon the majority of our orders were generated by our on-line presence rather then our brick-and-mortar storefront; moreover a large and growing percentage of our clients were in America.
Mick began to search for an American point of contact to facilitate US orders. A conversation with a friend and former client, Teresa Spencer led to the formation of an American company. Teresa who studied art history and formerly managed an art gallery is pleased to offer her expertise to our clients; Teresa is responsible for the coordination of all new orders.
Most of Mick’s time is divided between new business development, working with our artists first hand, and discovering new talent. Mick also has the benefit of speaking several languages and is able to respond to clients in German, French and Russian.

What Exactly Is A ‘Reproduction’? |
|
Our reproductions are highly accurate copies of original works of art, hand-painted on canvas by talented artists. Our products bring the art alive: you can smell the paint, and see and touch the brushstrokes, made by our artists in the same way that the original great master would have made them.
Once you have seen a work you like this, you will never want to accept a poster or print again. A Van Gogh copy will make you feel the passion of the artist through it’s dynamic brushwork, while the light in the eye of a Rembrandt portrait will hold you captivated time and again as you contemplate the thoughts that lie behind the subtlest expression.
And no, these are NOT ‘transfers’ onto canvas of a photographic image or gel medium painted over a canvas transfer. Sacrilege. Save yourself the money and at least buy a decent poster…

So How Close To The Original Are They? Check Paintings Ready to Ship |
|
Our clients comment, almost without exception, on the fantastic quality of the copies. See our 'Endorsements' page to read some of their responses over the years!
Check the actual paintings in our Ready to Ship section to see the quality of our work.
Are you going to make the neighbours envious? Of course you are. When visitors see one of these works in your house, they will stop in their tracks. Our aim is for the inevitable* difference between these works and the originals only to be visible upon close inspection. However, the goal is not to try and trick anyone into believing that these are originals (this is called fraud!). The goal is to reproduce the essence of the original and to pass on the creative and artistic thrill... and, of course, to bring objects of great beauty into all of our homes!
*Please don’t let anyone talk you into expecting 100% similarity. It isn’t humanly possible

Is this legal? |
|
Absolutely. We stress that these works are reproductions and do not attempt to pass them off as originals.
We only produce copies of works which have passed out of copyright and into the public domain. The basic rule for this is that the artist must have been dead for at least seventy years: unfortunately, this means that we cannot offer works by such wonderful artists as Klee, Matisse, Picasso, Mondrian, Kandinsky, to name but a few - but there’s still a whole five or six centuries of other genius to choose from!

Does size matter? |
|
Many of the world’s greatest paintings are on an epic scale, while others are painted in very eccentric dimensions. Whether you live in a small apartment with a crowded living room or a country mansion with an empty ballroom, we can offer reproductions in a suitable size, painted in proportion to the original (please ask us for a quote if the size of your choice is not among the options we offer).
Please note: all of the costs we give against each picture are based on sizes in direct proportion to the original. Many of our competitors offer only the same choice of standard sizes for all paintings, which means that the majority of these paintings will not even match the shape of the original...!

Do We Only Produce The Works Shown On This Site? |
|
Not at all. As long as you provide us with a good reference source, and as long as the work is out of copyright, we will reproduce any painting to your specification.
In fact, if you ask us to reproduce a work which we don’t currently list but really should, we’ll give you a 10% discount on the price! For other ways to obtain discounts or earn commissions, please see below.

Who Are Our Artists? |
|
Our artists include art students and full-time professional ‘copyists’, mostly from Russia and other former Eastern Bloc countries and Asia. Our MD, Mick Cassell, has worked for several years in Eastern Europe and has formed most of our artist relationships directly. We have nurtured our artists to provide reproductions to the appropriate quality level and within the required, commercial timescales.
We are proud to help develop the already considerable talents of our artists and in many cases to provide funding for their education in art, or else to give them the financial means to pursue their own career as original artists.

So How Do I Buy? |
|
The ordering and payment procedure on the website is easy to follow and is SECURE (see section 10 below). You may also order by fax, by mail or by telephone. To order through this site, simply select the painting you’re interested in and the size in which you want it reproduced, and follow the procedures and prompts. Contact us if you have any special requirements. As soon as we have your order and payment, we will give you a delivery time and begin work.
 |
| 9 |
Site Security |
|
Our order processing procedures use a dedicated e-commerce server providing fully secure transactions and ensuring complete confidentiality of your details.
 |
| 10 |
What Are The Lead Times? |
|
Depending on the complexity of the item, we aim to supply in around six to eight weeks, including all time taken to process orders, paint the picture to the required quality standards, allow time for the materials to dry, and dispatch. As stated above, we give you a lead time shortly after receipt of each order.
 |

Can I buy from stock |
|
We do carry a small amount of stock and this is listed on the site. If we have something you want, it can be dispatched to you immediately on receipt of payment. Click here to see a list of our stock. Note. In stock paintings are all held in the US. Non-US clients will be responsible for the payment of any import duties which apply.

Framing |
|
We do not frame the pictures: they are delivered to you rolled in secure tubes. There are two reasons for this: firstly, the cost of shipping would be crazy if we added frames, and secondly, frames are very much a matter of individual choice. With this in mind, it is far better that you consult with your local framing specialist.

Can I Receive Discounts For Repeat Purchase? |
|
Certainly you may. Whether you’re buying for yourself or on behalf of someone else, we are delighted that you’ve come back to us and are supporting us with your custom. So, we’ll offer you 10% off the price of every purchase you make after your first order! We also offer a 10% discount if you request a major work which we do not yet list.
We also offer special volume discounts to accommodate the special needs of interior designers, architects, hoteliers, and others.

I Think I Can Refer Friends To You - Will You Pay Me A Commission? |
|
Yes! Simply make the purchase in your name, so that it appears as a repeat purchase, and you are given a 10% discount which you can retain as commission.

I’m Interested In Becoming A Retail Agent. How Do I Go About This? |
|
Simply Contact Us and we’ll start the ball rolling. We are very keen to expand our retail operation and have our own plans to open new galleries.
 |
Our Mission:
We have two key watchwords: Quality and Service! As enthusiasts about what we do, we love praise (see our endorsements!) and we hate criticism, so we try to make sure that we look after you well throughout the process and deliver products that exceed your expectations.
We keep on top of your paintings throughout the production process, checking and commenting on the digital photos that our artists send to us, and once we're 90% satisfied we send photos to you for your comments. We only release the paintings to you when you're happy with what you've seen.
In addition to this, we try to add real value by visiting as many galleries as possible and "getting to know" paintings properly, so that we can pass on tips to artists. Where possible we also photograph the paintings in situ, so quite often we can show you how they were originally framed.
